Several news articles have addressed the growing problem of obesity and obesity-related health conditions in Kent. Recently, Swale and Medway were found to be high on a list of boroughs with a high prevalence of obesity within the population in the UK. This article discusses the impact of obesity on hospitals in the area. Interestingly, an observer commenting within the article, believed that the intake of calories was not the primary cause of obesity, rather a lack of exercise. Whilst this is partly true, the proliferation of fast cheap food and its effect on obesity can not be under-estimated.
