Gut Bacteria Revisited
23 Aug, 2016

Recently, I wrote about the effect a gastric bypass has on gut bacteria and how the changes were thought to contribute to the weight loss effect. A group of researchers have been able to isolate the bacteria, known as Akkermansia muciniphila, responsible for this effect in animal studies.

It is important to state that this is a research finding in animals under strict experimental conditions and that the results of this study can not be instantly extrapolated to produce the same effect in humans. Also, this effect can only be labelled as a weight loss contributing factor rather than the main causation.

I don’t think it’s feasible that you can eat cream cakes and chips and sausages all day long and then eat bacteria to reverse all that.
